Maine Events

Today, we drove from beautiful Niagara Falls to the also beautiful Maine (through New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire), whose state slogan is "Vacationland."  This is an extremely apt name for the place, as it appears to be all that anyone does here, that is, be on vacation.  There are people who live in Maine, sure, but it seems like most of the people that we see here are tourists.

Maine does not have the best state slogan though.  That honor goes to New Hampshire, whose slogan is "Live Free or Die."  We had no idea that Die Hard lifted New Hampshire's slogan for their fourth movie, but then again we didn't know that New Hampshire is such an intense place to live (freely.)

It turns out that today is the day to be in New Hampshire, because both Obama and Romney AND their Vice Presidents AND their wives were there today.  Obama was even in a town we drove through shortly before we were there, which caused a fair amount of traffic problems (Thanks, Obama)

The drive was pretty nice:
This is us crossing back into the United States.  The border crossing guard was very confused about our cat.  Apparently not many people travel with cats (we have an idea why)

We finally saw a nice lake, although it was not a Great Lake

The New York countryside is very nice.  We thoroughly enjoyed it

We thought this bridge looked pretty boss

So boss we took two pictures of it

As you may have noticed, driving on interstates is pretty terrible.  You don't get to see much, and there are cars everywhere (obviously).  Today was particularly bad, as there were some accidents (and Obama) ahead of us, causing us to stop entirely several times.  So, once we arrived in Maine, we decided to take the scenic route to our campground.  It was the so-called "coastal view highway" but our viewing of the coast was VERY limited (we saw it twice for a few seconds each).  However, this was more than made up with by the OVERWHELMING quaintness of the towns we drove through in Maine.  We've been quainted almost to death:
That's the town of York.  Founded in 1630.  That is a really long time ago, guys,
Check out that spire.  That is one awesome spire

No ocean, but this is a nice river

There were lots of quaint factories (it's a thing) along the drive as well

Some old building.

As you may have gathered, it is challenging to take nice pictures from a moving car, but trust us, it was as quaint as all get out.

Tomorrow we plan to make it to Dartmouth (which is where we will be living) so that will be our last day.  Also, we are not sure what our internet situation will be (likely non-existent, as apparently our internet provider decided to wait until today to contact us about some sort of problem they are having).  So, our blog will be fairly small tomorrow, and may not have any pictures.  But as soon as we have proper internet, we will blog again with pictures of our place and our neighbourhood.

We won't be blogging every night once we're there (blogging takes a long time [right, Chris Scott?]) but we would like to update this here blog at least once a week, so stay tuned for more exciting blogging!

Joke of the day: What do you call a bear with no ears?  A 'b'!  LOLLERCOSTER!!
